The Gotan Project came upon the scene with the La Revancha del Tango release which carried one to the local sounds of Argentina. This release crossed the boundary of traditional tango music of the region by blending the accordion sounds of the Bandoneon with electronic dance beats. It is a sound that words can do no justice. It was instantly infectious and tracks like Chunga's Revenge and Triptico became classics and haven't left many playlists since. Gotan have repeated success with their most recent release, Lunatico. Again, they experiment with their original sounds but it seems this time they desire the world to become more familiar with the real tango roots of Buenos Aires. They highlight several different guest vocalists to fill the mind and back it up with elegantly written music. Notas is a brillant track that begs one to move the table to create room to get down. Others like Diferente invite the mind to become overwhelmed with wanderlust. I knew immediately it was going to be a gem even before I played the first track when I read their liner notes that reveal their appreciation for the likes of Kruder & Dorfmeister. Well done Gotan.

cd

Vegas Strip Steak

After a week on the Las Vegas strip the chef has returned for evening of fine dining. A realization to take stock in one's character? A release of emotion to help bring on a new day of change? Whatever the reason, it is clear on Meme that Milosh has turned a new corner and is moving on from the past.

His debut, You Make Me Feel, created an immediate image of his personal life. It is an incredible journey that is often left off of most electronic releases. He is exposed on this first recording and it is clear, sometimes painfully, that Milosh was surrounded and occupied with the love for someone during its creation. But, his skill with writing excellently composed electronic music allowed the record to not be over shadowed by the powerful lyrical content. It is a perfect blend; a good martini of sorts.

Meme is a new cocktail blend of the original music of his first release. Milosh has once again created the endless sound waves that flow from his lyrics, sometimes making it impossible to decipher the origin of the sound. Songs like "Couldn't Sleep", "You Fill Me", and "The City" immediately sound like those missing tracks from his debut release. However, if one takes the time to listen to this album in its entirety, it will become clear that Milosh has something new to say. There is an experimentation here that is sometimes raw but never stretches the boundaries of his style. It is a recreation of himself after the death of a relationship. One can only hope that Milosh can continue down this revealing path of self-expression music.

cd

Fila Brazillia - Retrospective

Best of 1990-2006, release date April 10th.

Fila Brazillia have remained constant in dance music's perpetual shape-shifting. His fingers are making their way across the strings of his guitar when I notice he's sitting on an 18 inch woofer. Wait a second. When did Bob have dual turntables and those light effects? That's when I realize that Nightmares on Wax have reinvented themselves, once again.

Nightmares on Wax have always been impressive with their ability to pull together music worthy of headphones. Works such as Mind Elevation (2002) have guaranteed themselves a permanent spot on the shelf of any lounge/electronic/downtempo aficionado's collection. It is one of the things that is just right in the world and can be appreciated during almost any part of the day.

Outta Sound picks up where they left off, but clearly they have emptied out their pockets of all the goods for this release. It is a mixture of tasty new sounds from the Caribbean and Africa infused with electronic beats and samples. It is also a mixture of the familiar sounds that make them recognizable. Don't pass up the opportunity to reacquaint yourself with Nightmares on Wax with Outta Sound.

cd

Visit Warp Records to listen.

DJ Olive - Heaps As, Live In Tasmania

Heaps As really sums up the spirit of the Agriculture label. Heady stereo mixing with hip hop grooving. DJ Olive brings together a well thought out mix of dub, groove, snippets and acoustic instruments. The fun thing about this release is that it relates to the listener a moment (or two) in time as DJ Olive reinterprets his music in a live setting.

Provided by Properly Chilled

I couldn't agree more. This cd captures a moment of music that is seam-ingly endless. Olive's grooves supply the kinds of sounds that are infectious and not overwhelmingly complicated. Tonight, Slackline has created a laid back "chilled" session of musical food to help provide some comfort during some of Alaska's warmest weather this summer. During the appetizer, main course, and dessert hours you will find Baby Mammoth beginning each set. Baby Mammoth has a new release, entitled Seven Up, on Pork Recordings. This album is the culmination of all previous work to date for BM. Tonight, we have another special on the menu. For your musical pleasure, we will be featuring the musical varieties of Bonobo. Bonobo's album puts all doubt to rest that electronic music is something that can be eaten live. Over the years Bonobo has achieved studio greatness with Animal Magic and Dial M for Monkey. Here Simon Green demonstrates that his skills move well beyond the realm of the sound board. During each course tonight, we will be sure to spice up your entre with old and new from Bonobo at the top of each set. Tonight, we have a special musical treat on the menu for you. During the appetizer, main course, and dessert hours we will be featuring Four Tet. Four Tet is the brainchild of Kiernan Hebden and is a blend of electronica with a subtle taste of infused real instruments. Compared to his earlier work, the fourth release, Everything Ecstatic, provides a departure from the more subtle flavors of previous work such as Pause and Rounds. But who can complain when the results from Hebden's kitchen provide a visionary insight into the best of digital head spins.
